If this is the article you are referring to, Intel no longer competes in the PLD market.

In 1984, Intel became the main foundry source (at that time) for Altera's line of CMOS EPLD's. They also became a "partner" and entered the PLD market selling ALtera devices (second source) and some of their own PLDs.

Intel exited this market in 1994, selling their PLD business to ALtera for cash and stock. They have since sold the stock - I think.

As for AMD losing the suit - another misstep by Sanders. What's new?
