Hi Spekulatius - The Dupont story for me is their big expansion in China into Solar panel manufacturing. Here is my previous post from November and pictures of their new manufacturing facilities in China. This division should double their sales in 2 or 3 years to over $500 million. Pretty good for an R&D group with just over $10 million in sales in 2004.

The other bonus in Dupont is their Pioneer Hybrid seed division ( pioneer.com ). They are 2nd to Monsanto in worldwide hybrid seed sales. They continue to show good growth in their hybrid seed sales in Brazil.

The Dupont Energy & Utility division ( www2.dupont.com ) may get some Obama infrastructure money specifically from their Power Generation & Distribution unit ( www2.dupont.com ) and from their Water & Sewage Treatment unit.

Dupont is not just a chemical company but have other profit centers that IMO are being sold on the cheap. I was quite surprised by their many other business divisions they owned.

DD is now one of my top five holdings and I plan to add more shares over time on any continued sell off.

I am still quite cautious on this market, My strategy is to move new money in over time (next 3 quarters) with my focus on good dividend payers that have moderate to low debt.

Keep your picks coming as I find many of your selections are good one. I especially liked ENBRIDGE ENERGY MGMT
(NYSE: EEQ). We might get a buying window tomorrow for SPECTRA ENERGY (NYSE: SE). If it trades lower than $14, I might add a few more shares to my small starter position.

AAUK- looks like we are about to test the lows. Horrible earnings and dividend suspended:
angloamerican.co.uk

I'll put in a buy near the low. Still looks like a survivor to me.

Anglo American rallies on Xstrata bid approach
marketwatch.com

From the article - LONDON (MarketWatch) -- Shares of Anglo American rallied on Monday as investors bet that the mining group will reject a merger proposal from rival Xstrata and demand a premium for a deal to go through.

Xstrata said in a statement that it sees "substantial operational synergies" and reports indicate that Xstrata sees those savings amounting to $1 billion a year. The companies both, for instance, have coal assets in Australia and South Africa.

"Merger and bid proposals normally flush out unseen value in major mining companies as boards compete to show which company has greater value. Previously unseen projects and overlooked assets may come to the fore and hidden businesses may be sold to realize cash," said John Meyer, an analyst at U.K. brokerage Fairfax, in a note to clients

It seems like a good one to continue to hold as the hidden value from all of their natural resource assets are now in play. Specifically AAUK has substantial platinum holdings in AGPPY ( finance.yahoo.com ). This one might be a good one to add as it is trading near it's low, pays a huge annual dividend (every August), is thinly traded on the pink sheets and Xstrata is said to be quite interested in these (platinum) assets.

Platinum is used in the production of catalytic converters ( en.wikipedia.org ) and AGGPY is one of the few producers in the world that mine this specialized metal.

I own both AAUK and AGPPY as core holding in my portfolio since they provide a good equity hedge against inflation.
