Just as a 'for-instance', say Gore would have become prez in 2000 rather than Bush. I know it demands a lot of conjecture but do you think the world would be a different place today had that been the outcome of that election?

(This is the argument my friends toss out at my cynicism regarding no diff between Dims and Repugs.)
