tejek, the 90s is where the foundation of this current crisis was laid.

clinton and greenspan engineered a phony "new economy" and then stood by and allowed the first mega bubble of our age blow up and pop right before out eyes.

the budget was *never* balanced, so clinton also lied to you. yes, he came close, but the debt gre each and every year clinton was in office.

the main reason the budget was almost balanced is b/c of the bubble tax receipts... which instituted a greed zitgeist that has landed us square in the middle of a fiscal abyss.

of course, bush stepped on the gas, but he did so after clinton laid a solid foundation AND it was on clinton's watch that they repealed legislation regulating credit default swaps.

you do know what unregulated credit default swaps have done to the economy, no?

yes, times were better under clinton for most people. having said that, the foundation for our current disaster was solidly laid by clinton and his team.

A very one sided myopic Democratic view. I would expect nothing less from you which proves my point. Hard core D's and R's are hell bent on worshipping the current federal system. If it's so good and works so well, how did it produce Bush? I'll tell you since your memory is apparently fried.

People were sick of Slick Willy and wanted "change". Sound familiar? The stock market had already peaked and was ready to implode The prevailing wisdom was that Clinton left his heir(either Gore or Bush) with an economy ready to implode coupled with a nasty recession. Greenspan kept it on life support as long as he could by inflating the real estate bubble. What we see now is the culmination of the last 50 years of corporate lead greed caste as "nation building", a policy still espoused and endorsed by the majority who can't see nor understand that the American Dream is a hollow lie spun by Madison Ave. to the detriment of humanity.

Believe what you will, but there are many, many ideas out there that would actually be beneficial to us humans. Consuming the world's resources in a selfish circle jerk isn't working....especially when coupled with history's most dominant military force. Why don't you do a little research and find out how the surviving family members of those 4,000 Colombians that were killed by the Chiquita funded paramilitary feel about the American Dream? You can ask your new AG who supports such barbaric nonsense.
