Its a huge issue, I've given lots of thought to. We have gone pretty far in giving cops licence to venture into questionable areas with undercover operations, with using informants, with cutting deals, and plea bargains with criminals. Yet it seems there is less deterrent for crime than ever and it is more prevelant than ever.

I've spoken to gangster types and they don't see much difference between themselves and the cops who they play cat and mouse with. They figure there is lots of lee way and tolerance for their criminal activity, if when they get caught they are willing to play along.

What would happen if we just had zero tolerance. You do the crime you pay the time, no exceptions. Criminals would be less willing to rat on each other but they wouldn't get into a criminal life thinking they can play the system to escape prosecution in the first place.

I agree with you that bad apples should not be given an inch. Given the size alone of the blue population in America, it is reasonable to conclude there are plenty. I personally hold them to a higher standard but also hold what I consider to be a healthy skepticism.

I just think there are much better ways to deter sloppy police work and corruption than withholding evidence in court, which I'm not convinced does much to deter bad cops.
