Nice post.

One of my oldest friends is a very bright guy. Started his own company and has always excelled.

Still, he thinks that one party is vastly superior to other (and as I agree with your post, I won't even mention which of the parties this is, for it IS meaningless). He is a rational guy except when politics are the topic.

I just listen and tell him that I've lost faith in either party and can no longer tell the difference. For some reason, this very intelligent person cannot understand that, and thinks that I am nuts (and secretly he believes I must be <one of them>).

This is not an isolated experience.

Many of us are supportive of positions and parties that are not central to the real issues. Distractions put in place by the machine perhaps. Either McCain or Obama would have 125 staffers from the CFR. Was it not Clinton that said it took him a while before he realized he was not in charge?
