Back when I used to grow a beard for winter I can attest to the fact that it does in fact insulate and quite well. The ice build up just adds to the insulation. But now that I've turned gray the bride tells me I look like I'm 70 years old with my gray so she says there is no more beard. Perhaps when I am 70 she won't mind so much:)
