Diversification is vastly overrated.

Diversification is not overrated. Diversification is done for portfolio stability and prevention of wild swings in portfolio values. For diversification to work, the underlying assets should have a negative correlation between them. If one chooses assets from just one sector, they will, in general, be positively correlated to each other and that doesn't help in diversification efforts!

An investor stated "...if you see a great investment opportunity...you better not be sitting in a corner reading a book about diversification..."(W. Buffet)

I once believed that you should hold negatively correlated assets but reality bit me in the *** and I am have come to believe that when the market goes down everything seems to go down in a perfectly correlated way.

I posed the imaginary portfolio question because I, like many others, believe that when the market rises once again semiconductor and chip stocks will lead the way. They are the building blocks of the economy; every device has chips, and the sector is severely depressed albeit for some very good reasons. I am patient and I am willing to wait until the sector turns to make some major gains. On the upside this sector is explosive.

I currently have major holdings in Intel and Amat as well as a couple of mutual funds concentrating in the sector.

Currently, leaning towards purchasing USD.
