After voting for TARP and the other treasury robbing get-rich-quick schemes of the Washington/Wall Street money men, Republicans as a party can no longer politic against overspending and waste. It's just not credible.

Could not agree with you more. We now have 350 billion dollars of "stage one" TARP money out there somewhere. Paulson seems unable or unwilling to explain where it went. The image of him on his knees before Nancy Pelosi begging her to support the 700 billion dollar giveaway should haunt conservatives forever.

I rather like the idea of supporting the inevitable stimulus package, then making it clear that there is no more money for systemic fixes to the system (health care for example). The conservatives need a new face to preent the message. Someone for people to rally around. This does not have to be a republican, but could be. A younger Ron Paul clone without some of the baggage would find a ready audience. Guys like Mitch McConnel and John Boehner should be put out to pasture as quickly as humanly possible.
