Most countries treated them like they were third world, which actually wasn't far from the truth. But they went from being feared and respected to being ignored in a real short period of time. Feeling you aren't getting the respect you deserve drives a lot of resentment. I am sure you're right......I just thought that economic success would be the great equalizer and comforter. But now that you mention it there are a couple of Russians in my gym and my first encounters with them were prickly....they were very standoffish......but now they are friendly. Anecdotal stuff but it fits.
