<Republican hearts bleed for GM.> I think more Republicans would be willing to let Gm go bankrupt. The Democrats are afraid of the UAW and worried about a union backlash.

It's difficult to defeat terrorists on a budget. What good is a balanced budget if you're pushing up daisies after a nuclear attack. Priorities must be adjusted according to current realities. Did Pres Bush buy funding for US troops from congressional Dems by allowing them to spend like drunken sailors? He could not chance leaving the military on the battlefield without funds due to Democrats' innate irresponsible attitude toward the troops. Therefore he bought their military budget approval and was willing to endure the political consequences he was aware would follow. As he said last night -- we might not have agreed with them, but we must acknowledge GW Bush was willing to make the tough decisions. We'll see if Mr O will do the same, or will he tend to ruminate for so long over every important issue that it will be equivalent to his 'present' votes as a state senator.
