>>>His comment on College was interesting. Always thought that was a bubble that will burst also. Spending exorbitant amounts for a degree with no real jobs available is absurd.<<<

I think that bubble, if there ever was one, burst MANY years ago. There was and still is a shortage of skilled trades people. Hard to find a cab driver who is a trained plumber, electrician, pipe fitter, whatever. I have met lots of cabbies with college or university degrees. Haven't you?

There are all kinds of studies around which prove that a skilled trades person's lifetime income can match, even exceed that of a college of university graduate. Factor in the cost / length of the "gold plated" education and the trades person wins hands down.

Trades we will always need no matter how bad the economy is. We need plumbing to work. He need electrical systems to work. We need our older cars fixed and and and ... BUT we certainly don't need to employ the well / over educated with no specific skills who contribute virtually nothing to the global economy. That includes the vast majority of economists, anal-ysts, bankers, brokers, government employees, politicians etc.

Sorry, no sale, if you are biasing your son's future with today's prejudices and economic situation. Maybe he would like to go to college to learn something. It's more than a trade school. But if that's all you think it is, think of this: An idiot with a BS in engineering makes more than a master plumber with 10 years experience, and the hours are easier. Work with you mind rather than your hands if you can.

PS - I am not disparaging the trades, but have you ever met a master plumber ? More likely it's some dolt sent out by Sears to install your dishwasher and messes the whole thing up.
