Sorry for my late reply , Honey_bee , but I just returned to my keyboard after eating at our local Golden Corral buffett as is our usual Sunday morning habit when we're in Anchorage . After having lived up here in Alaska since the fall of 1967 after returning from Vietnam , and having spent all of those winters up to 2000 when I retired and was able to begin my snow bird life style between here in Alaska and Hawaii , I'm used to spending winters here in Alaska . And actually having lived in Southeast , Alaska for 11 of those years with over 3 years spent living in downtown Juneau where the wife and I hiked everything in sight ... for more than one summer's hiking season . So I'm well aware of Juneau and all those little coastal towns in the Southeast panhandle of Alaska .

Most of Alaska doesn't need the rain as the permafrost put a layer under all the lakes and streams up here so that even a little rain and snow goes a long way . Very unlike Kailua - Kona and the leeward dry side of the Big island where they presently suffer from drought conditions that you guys can have down there in La La land .

I'm sure that your Aunt Tillie would agree with me when I tell you that your best security is your ability to do without . And that the borrower is slave to the lender so maintaining a debt free life style , especially in retirement , is more than being religious .

Congradulations on your own forum .
