The gas filter is usually right up under the frame (outside) on the passenger side and easily replaceable. You can buy the filters at any auto parts store.

Oil change places try to upsell this service for big bucks.

If people changed their oil at 7,500 miles like most owners manuals recommend rather than the 3,000 miles the instant oil change places recommend they'd probably see their business drop by 25% or more.

Dealer service intervals are notoriously more aggressive than owners manual intervals. People will start to notice that more and more or just avoid them.
