My point was that using LBJ as an answer does not answer why conservatives do not mind borrowing and spending. They do it because it wins elections. And they do a diservice to the country because they make it impossible for dems to talk about raising taxes, for balancing a budget, or like a gas tax or war tax. I was no friend of LBJ. I was part of the 60's crowd that supported MCarthy and forced LBJ out. The Viet Nam war was a disaster. But Conservatives always talk about lower taxes, always lower taxes, cheney even saying "reagan taught us deficits do not matter and then they run up huge deficits which our kids will have to pay for. Liberals think if you are going to spend, then tax yourself, do not pass it on to the kids.
