I don't know anything about that story of the actor, but it made me think of this similar story where a professor of mathematics and physics published a spoof or hoax article in "Social Text" a journal of "postmodernist cultural studies" as an experiment to see if the journal would, "publish an article liberally salted with nonsense if (a) it sounded good and (b) it flattered the editors' ideological preconceptions."
