Mankind's greatest failure is the generalized inability to understand the implications of the exponential function.

That just about says it all, Jay.

It is the secret to gold, oil and most commodities, which by definition cannot ever become exponential.

Cash, humans, debt, etc., can and will become exponential in time, or at least make a valiant effort to do so.

In other words, fiat paper and debt and many other not so good things have a tendency to grow exponentially. Compound interest is of course a very good reason why they do so.

Gold, never. Oil, never. Commodities, seldom. Everything that declines is subject to exponential growth, the things that retain value do not because Nature has limited them.

This fellow explains it concisely and brilliantly. Set aside an hour or so to take the Crash Course and have everything you believe confirmed, but from a very different perspective.
