One of my friends is an AA pilot. He now has enough seniority that he only flies international routes. He has a bunch of interesting stories.

Oh yes, and is wife was a stewardess for AA.

I have a relative I met at our family reunion who just retired from flying 747's to Tokyo. I asked him how many emergencies he had ever experienced in his 35 years of flying. He said he had 2 major incidences in small private plane, got shot down over Vietnam but in commercial he had lost one engine once to a mechanical failure and had to shut it down, that was it. And he said losing an engine in flight with a 747 is basically a non event and a one line entry in your flight log.
