I've told my three kids that one should be an electrician, one a plumber, and one a carpenter. You set your own schedule, make a decent buck, actually do something constructive, and if you're reasonably competent do quite well. Plus, you don't have a lifetime of debt from the ridiculous tuitions colleges now charge that was exactly his point.. that and the fact that we have debased a college degree to the point you need a degree to get a job in industries where none should be required (retail for example) i'm watching this play out right now with a friend's daughter..she just graduated (with honors) last spring, 'corporate communications' major....a degree for which there are no jobs....so she's working for health club as 'activities director' for this the parents over $100k sadly, she thinks the solution is to go back to school and buy a master's degree...and fortunately the parents are resisting that one, understanding that if she does, she'll only emerge as 'overqualified' for a starter position in a field where there are very few jobs <ng>
