Dr. Strangelove=Geithner Bert Lance was Carter's original appointee to be Director of the Office of Management and the Budget. Prior to that he had been Chairman of a small-time bank in Georgia. About 6 months into Carter's administration, the story broke that he was responsible for mismanagement and corruption there. Energy spent on defending Lance took away momentum from Carter's legislative agenda and effectively scuttled the rest of his first year in office. Same could well happen with Geithner and Obama (I'm opposed to Geithner based on his treasonous activities in bailing out LTCM and in deregulating credit derivatives, the income tax evasion, while not surprising is simply another shrimp on the Barbie as far as the Bonfire of Timmy is concerned).
