I totally agree. It may rarely be necessary, but it is abhorrent.

Waterboarding, loud music, sleep deprivation, exposure, etc., is far more humane than torture, but still undesirable.

I personally believe Bill Clinton's position on it makes a lot of sense, which is essentially, "You have to have it available, but we don't need to go around talking about it, and while we don't need to codify its use, a president needs to have it available as a tool at times."

The practice of Extraordinary Rendition was a pretty sensible way of doing it.
