at what point does atlas shrug?

one of the responses to his post was quite interesting (i know you like astronomy)

check this out:

' So watch the tax collection stats on April 15. Watch the pundits express
' surprise that tax revenues are plummeting, and expect state and local politicos
' and their special-interest masters to demand higher taxes to make up the
' shortfall. Gee, the more we tighten our grip around the goose's neck, the more
' labored its breathing; I don't get it. You will; it's called the endgame.

It's called stellar core collapse: First the thermocuclear burn rate (taxation) increases geometrically, then exponentially, then it abruptly ceases when fuel runs out, followed by instantaneous implosion.

If the US were compared to a massive star, the sequence would be:

1776-1930: hydrogen burn
1931-1968: helium burn
1968-1980: carbon burn
1981-2000: oxygen burn
2001-2007: neon burn
2008-2009: silicon burn
present: fuel exhausting; collapse imminent
very soon: supernova

hey we're socialist! we're huge! we're all gonna die!

and btw, there is no such thing as security:

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature.... Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.
