There are times when a somewhat active (I bridle at the modern redundonym "proactive") attitude helps.

as in:

Who am I going to be, and what steps do I take to stack the deck toward that happening?

My life right now finds itself in a "rapidly evolving" phase. I have found taking positive action (such as minding my diet as much as a fussy eater such as I can, regular exercise and working on building a rack to place my solo canoe safely and stylishly atop the Poop Wgn) to be most salutary and recommended.
The other thing is that I am being challenged daily in the observance of my new practical religion:

BE NICE.

Road rage, postmarital maneuvering warfare, treating the waitress like poo, rolling my eyes at the wild emotions the Pubescent One is expressing, grousing at the strange and (to me) nye-kulturny weirdness on the carton channels ... all these are venial sins.

Self-pity and a tendency toward identifying myself as a victim are cardinal sins.

It's a grand opportunity to build character. And to know Jacques Chitte. <g>
