Sorry, Dave I know better to tell the difference between objective analysis and wishfull thinking. Whether AMAT will go up or down no one can tell, my opinion is that it will be at least 50 by January. As for you, I think you are either short, or wish to buy AMAT at lower price.

The recent price action in AMAT is very similar to the last time AMAT split in '96. It was at 110 or so, split 2 for 1, and then preceded to drift down into the mid 20's before taking off again to 100. The people following INTC have reported Intel pricing pressures could remain until the summer of '98 and that might be when AMAT bottoms out. Long term this a great company to own. It is the Intel of their business. No one comes close. But short term I don't know. I keeping looking for buying opportunities but every bid that comes up gets smacked with alot more behind. We are overdue for a technical bounce, but I don't think we have seen the true bottom yet. I think any rebound in price will only bring out more sellers. I say that because of the spunk they have been knocking it down. Fundamentally, nothing has really changed from a month ago, except for what Intel has said. Tom

Dave there are no such thing as whisper numbers....there are now COUNTER WHISPER NUMBERS which are 5 % below estimates.... you will see this play out as The Bull Propaganda counter acts the bears next qtr....the whisper numbers were created by the shorts that are scared ..there are billions of dollars that are short that is in severe loss status...
