We might end up with citibank and Bank america as national banks with both smith blarney and merrill lynch being spun off to Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs respectively. Latter is just a guess on my part. I dont see how BA can hold on to ML if Citi was forced to sell SB.
If we can get out of this collective funk, we will be OK (in time). But bush flying off in the copter will not do it nor will inauguration and parties tonite. Today is the morning after bush, tomorrow is the morning after the morning after and i think the new president has to instill that optimism in the mass of very frightened americans and europeans. We need bills passed, priorites made, and an end to the polarizing politics of bush and before that clinton.
