You are REALLY stretching Hawk (to say nothing of exaggerating). So now it's a car company conspiracy for bad tech?

I didn't say it.. you did..

I just suggested that for Detroit, it would be a smart business decision to foist a auto technology upon the American people that would require them to purchase a new car, or "engine" every 5 years.

The efficiency of Eric's Tesla, or Mindmeld's Volt will dramatically diminish over the course of 5 years. Then we'll see how they feel when they have to fork out another $14K (or maybe even more, depending upon Lithium commodity prices)..

But Detroit won't mind.. they want to sell the "razor blades" for their expensive razors.

I'm willing to wait until we have a energy storage capability that is both capable of fast recharge, as well as 10's of thousands of recharge cycles that will permit it to last for more than a mere 5-10 years.

And btw, how about R&D into 6 stroke engines? Just came across this interesting link where the inventor claims the ability to decrease fuel consumption by 40%:
