I'm not saying tax the oil companies out of existence. What I would do, though, is hire one of the reputable consulting firms in this country to go out and do a comprehensive study on exactly how much our military helps out the oil companies to secure our oil supplies and then use those costs as a baseline to create additional tax on oil corporate profits to pay for that privilege. Either that, or stop using our military and force the oil companies to secure their own oil supplies and fight their own wars. Then let's see just how viable the oil industry really is. My guess is oil and gas costs to us consumers would quickly shoot past the costs of alternative energy sources, as well as past the cost of producing transportation energy from coal and natural gas.
