That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. Homes have been lost; jobs shed; businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly; our schools fail too many; and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet.

Doe anybody think that the current state of affairs is actually due to the items bolded above?

I also wonder about those *hard choices* and our *collective failure*. IMO, the hard choice would have been to insist on responsible lending practices so that people don't end up in homes they cannot afford. Instead of that, lenders were pressed to make irresponsible loans. And yes, their greed may have taken over. But how about the greed of the community organizers, ACORN , BHO, Dodd, Frank, and Rainers who profitted from that greed? Was he talking about them?

I'm not sure if this is the speech in its entirety, but if it is we're in trouble. Not once were the words "democracy" or "republic" used.
