There are not "many" serious scholars who deny the historicity of Jesus Christ. And your example is hardly a "serious scholar":

Professor of Theology and Scriptural Studies at Johnnie Colemon Theological Seminary, an unaccredited school in Carol City, Florida governed by a New Thought organisation known as the Universal Foundation for Better Living. .... Price edits the Journal of Higher Criticism, ...

The magazine continues to be supported by the Atheist Alliance.

The New Thought Movement or New Thought is a Spiritual movement which developed in the United States during the late 19th century and emphasizes metaphysical beliefs. It is comprised of a loosely allied group of religious denominations, secular membership organizations, authors, philosophers, and individuals who share a set of metaphysical beliefs concerning the effects of positive thinking, the law of attraction, healing, life force, creative visualization and personal power.[1] It promotes the ideas that God is ubiquitous, spirit is the totality of real things, true human selfhood is divine, divine thought is a force for good, all sickness originates in the mind, and 'right thinking' has a healing effect.
....
The three major, but distinct, religious denominations within the American New Thought movement are Unity Church, Religious Science, and the Church of Divine Science.

Compare your example of a "serious scholar" with mine:

... educated at the University of Aberdeen, Cambridge University and the University of Vienna. After teaching Greek for several years first at the University of Edinburgh and then at the University of Leeds he became head of the Department of Biblical History and Literature at the University of Sheffield in 1947. In 1959 he moved to the University of Manchester where he became professor of Biblical Criticism and Exegesis. In his career he wrote some thirty-three books and served as editor of The Evangelical Quarterly and the Palestine Exploration Quarterly.

Another example of my idea of a "serious scholar":

Richard Bauckham (born September 22, 1946) has published widely in theology, historical theology and New Testament. He is currently working on New Testament Christology and the Gospel of John.
[edit] Career
M.A., Ph.D. Cambridge; F.B.A.; Professor of New Testament Studies and Bishop Wardlaw Professor, University of St Andrews

en.wikipedia.org

"Richard Bauckham studied at the University of Cambridge, where he read history at Clare College (1966-72) and was a Fellow of St. John's College (1972-75). He taught theology for one year at the University of Leeds, and for 15 years at the University of Manchester (1977-1992), where he was lecturer, then reader in the History of Christian Thought, before moving to St. Andrews in 1992. He is currently a Fellow of the British Academy, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and a member of the Doctrine Commission of the Church of England." [2]
