I know Elizabeth Alexander slightly-- and I know her work. I think what she was asked to do was really tough for an American poet-- our culture just doesn't have the tradition of "occasional" poems, as the British do. Her poem, I thought, was fitting but not memorable.

Frankly, I thought both Obama and that really cool minister who delivered the last inaugural prayer were much more moving.
