Guatemala's violence has been chronic for decades. Death squads, private assassins, the whole gamut of evil pervades this beautiful country.

You may find this interesting. It is emblematic of the northern Mexican spirit and its vibrant community and political life: citizens' efforts lead to a [more or less] clean municipal police force. I hope it overpowers the drug violence, but it is a daunting task for the money is incredible. Moreover, the narcos are slowly becoming accepted, some are cultural icons.

Interesting to note that the narcoviolence probably kills many more than the conflict in Iraq currently does. All of this violence is of course going to affect us sooner or later.

Heck, the narcos even have their own saint.
