I remember, as a kid during the early days of WWII. My father was a friend of the warden of the Colorado State Penitentiary. The warden had a bloodhound that had a litter of pups. He gave one to us. As the pup got older he developed an appetite for our chickens. Since the chickens were our eggs and meals, my dad shipped the dog off to the Army, answering an ad for military dogs. A few months later the Army sent my dad a letter saying they couldn't train the dog and were going to put him down if we wouldn't pay to ship him back to us. Needless to say....
