Obama isn't stupid enough to risk screwing Iraq up. It would be an abject failure of his presidency. He's not a total idiot.


All he has to do is bring home the surge troops or redeploy to Afghanistan to claim he's moving on Iraq and he can buy into the already approved ramp down schedule agreed to by Iraq and the USA under Bush. Basically a lot of hand waving and doing what was already in plan - although he can give a better speech than Bush ever could have.

Want to bet that our withdrawal from Iraq proceeds EXACTLY as Bush had planned and agreed with the Iraqis it would? You want to bet?

A spokesman for the Iraqi PM said this morning that they are ready to assume security of the country before the 2011 date of the "agreement" in place now.
