I'd say the inflation of the 70s to very early 80s was somewhat easily although in a sense destructively solved through monetary policy. The destruction was the early 80s recession, which was largely caused by the high interest rates, not resolved by them.

Today the problem is different but that doesn't mean its necessarily going to be worse, let alone much worse.
