There is in fact, pre-Obama, a rising black middle class, people
that own homes, stay married, master a profession etc. The
election of Senators etc. is part of and stimulates this trend.
But let's face it, Obama is somebody special and President is
something special. What is happening reverberates around
the world and has a specially powerful influence.

Put me down as naive.

The TV show "LA Law" drove up law school applications.

The OJ Simpson trial drove law school applications down, and produced a drop in average LSATs.

The widely publicized behaviour of Paris and Nick Hilton has lead to the revision of many wills and trusts.

The widely publicized unmarried pregnancies of various music and movie people does influence the young, stupid and poor.

As for Hispanics, we don't need to have a Cuban American, they already have higher participation in graduate schools than non-hispanic whites...

Mexican culture is likely to require more effort to change.
