Locally i have heard now she is having second thoughts about withdrawing.

That's what makes her disappointing. I had no idea she was so weak.

Fundamentally, the appointment process is no different from an election. In that regard, anyone who wants to "run" for a Senate appointment ought to be permitted to do it.

I believe Caroline Kennedy would be more qualified, for example, than Obama was when he was elected to the Senate. Certainly, more than Carol Moseley Braun or Al Franken.

Her political experience is not that different from Hillary's when Hillary ran for the Senate -- Hillary had no political EXPERIENCE, but had received political experience by osmosis from family members. I mean, really, how could you be a close relative of Teddy's without having some political exposure?

I think she withdrew because she really wasn't behind it. It came up, someone said, "Why don't you grab that Senate seat?" and she thought, "Well, maybe." Then backed out. It appears she had some other problems as well.

The rumor that she quit because she wasn't going to be appointed is probably just out there to keep it from looking like Cuomo was a 2nd choice when it is ultimately made.
