Not sure exactly how many. Obviously it takes a few hundred to make a fab run at all. Based on my R&D fab experience, you need 2 finger pointers for every useful worker <G>. But not near 4 figures.

Speaking of semis.. heard at work today, direct info from 2 days ago... TSMC's fab utilization is down under 30% now. From 40% a few weeks back.

TSMC is the world's biggest merchant fab. We're all connected, and IMO Obama's $900B stimulus is p*ssing into a hurricane at this point.
