HH: I doubt that he's using straight jumps. That would require someplace to put the code he's jumping to within the object module that he modified. There are problems with addressability off of the base register(s) ... called BL's in COBOL. And, various options in the compiler generate different linkage instructions. Not impossible, but certainly challenging. You also have to worry about the CA-Optimizer product which uses different base registers than the IBM compiler. This is all information gathered from having to write object code patches to COBOL based software products. It's hard to do it manually, so it'd be tough to do automatically.

Perhaps he's hiding 'stuff' in the PGT or the TGT areas. Dunno.

This whole Bemer discussion series reminds me of the MatriDigm hullabaloo when it was first announced. Lots of conjecture, but no real meat to discuss. I guess we'll see soon enough. Well, maybe not soon enough to be meaningful.
