A country has a certain amount of assets and when another person is brought in, those assets are diluted and ownership of them handed over to the immigrant. It's quite annoying to see swarms of low value bludgers coming into NZ who will not add more value than they get given. Citizenships should be tradable individually owned assets. Collectivism/communism/hippiedom/tribalism seems nice if viewed from a distance = so egalitarian, kumbaya, caring and sharing but as anyone who has reached a few decades of age should have observed, it's a nasty way of life for those who aren't ruling the place [and their acolytes]. If the value of a country is divided up by the number of citizens, NZ is worth about US$1 million or maybe even US$2 million. When a Somali refugee with AIDS is given one of those for no charge, nobody appreciates just what value they have been handed on a plate. Worse, swarms of immigrants REDUCE the value of the country by destroying property and people or merely by consuming resources and blocking roads. High value immigrants add value, but they are few and far between because they are treated as cash cows to be bled by taxation. People, including immigrants, don't wish to be treated as cash cows, or sheep to be fleeced. If immigrants could buy a tradable citizenship, they would swarm in because it would become an appreciating asset and people would act to make things better. Bludgers would get told to get lost and get a job. If immigrants could sell their citizenships, they wouldn't feel cornered by immigrating. They could enjoy a better life, add value, make profits, AND make a capital gain on leaving if they so choose. All countries treat citizens as serfs = revenue producing state-owned chattels [and in some instances slaves]. None have free people with full property rights. Mqurice
