I don't really know what's best. Volcker's suggestion of
nationalization of the financial system may be pretty
much unavoidable (when it applies to derivative monsters
JPM, Citi, and BAC). The derivative contracts will be canceled
in such arrangement, but not the credit bubble itself. Under
takeover rules the management always goes. I am mildly optimistic
as far as cronyism goes - I think we'll see a lot less of that,
and some prosecutions of white collar crimes as well. We
have to see how things will go. I'm also optimistic that
US could possibly return on a path of sustainable growth
within a reasonable time frame of 2-4 years, but that will
depend on the policy actions. We could be stuck in a rut
for another decade.
