I used to love twinkies. And the formula of the twinkie has changed over the years- I'd be willing to bet:

I remember twinkies tasting different when I was a kid. Now that could be because kids have different sensitivities to food (they do), but I can't imagine that years and years of food science didn't do it's voodoo on the twinkie- not least of course, by adding HFC's instead of cane sugar. I much prefer cane sugar to HFCs. HFCs have a kind of slimey mouth feel that cane sugar does not have.
