As I recall Windows was a program and DOS was the OS until Win.95 isn't that correct? And if it is correct, why didn't anyone raise a stink 1995 when this occurred? Yes, DOS the OS and Windows 3.1 the GUI that could not run without DOS. I don't think people even looked at Win 3.1 as a program, when you brought your PC home you booted up to the 3.1 GUI. Hmmm, good question 'is Win 3.1 a program or OS, this could get philosophical! <gg> I used Xtree some years ago, but I'm curious? Wouldn't Xtree run under Win95 using a DOS shell? I don't like the strong arm tactics MSFT or the fact that MSFT is forcing the OEMs into something they don't want. But isn't making I.E. part of the OS the same thing as what was done with Windows? I believe millions share your view, I certainly do. MSFT is one arrogant company but they are biting the hands that feed it IMO. With the power of the internet and other media MSFT's image could become tainted. I don't think they are concerned at all by that, they are afterall the monopoly! IMO FWIW, IE4 is an application, period! MSFT cannot just suddenly change all the rules in the game to their own liking. I really believe they are not going to win that argument. If they get away with that then what stops them from making MS Word part of the OS? They could say it's a feature of the "active desktop" and enhances the Windows experience. What a bunch of BS! Short MSFT! <gg>
