Huh? Global warming is a gradual thing which is having small negative effects now but has the potential to be worst in the long-term. People are dying and suffering NOW because of lack of medical care, lack of jobs, and fighting in Iraq. It's natural for people to look at the short term first when things are bad.

I don't think it "reflects hubris" at all. It's the truth. In fact, in Pelosi's case, it's even more noble, because she's in her 60s and won't be around when things get really bad due to global warming.
