There are also more subtle societal pressures... and I suspect those are starting to play out. CEOs making $40Million will probably not be acceptable going forward, when the rest of the country is suffering.

I don't think that's right. I think greed is inherent to a capitalist society and we have to accept it. In the early 90s, when we were in recession, they exposed all this wanton waste of money in LA. Ten years, the country was right back there when the 2001 recession hit.......remember the guy with the gold lamé shower curtain, costing [I think] $20K. And now 8 years later, we're right back there complaining about John Thain. Truth is I don't think it ever stopped.......it only becomes an issue when we're in recession. Hell.....A-rod gets $26 million each year for batting a ball around.

Greed is inherent in the human behavior of some and capitalist societies are made up of human beings. And I don't see how you can legislate against it.
