One of my authors is finishing a book about a family, some friends and a priest who are sailing from Spain to California to help operate the missions in California. The book opens with the trip from Spain to Panama, the trek through the jungle and then the sail up to California. Only two young girls and the priest survive the trip. I've been in seas where I was sure we were going to go ass over tea kettle. You don't have time to be scared but the adrenaline hangover was brutal. We had a small freezer that was affixed to the deck and lashed to the sides of the fantail that broke lose and crashed through the side of the boat.
