Well, according to an article Salon in '05, the all-in cost of the Bush inauguration, which they roundly bashed him for, was $70 Million. Versus $170M for Obama, according to news reports.

So, the difference is $100M.

Neither of us knows the total. But it is a lead-pipe cinch that Obama's ran at least double Bush's last. And it is funny after all the complaints about Bush's, we nary a complaint about Obama's.

Beside the point, though. The simple truth is that with $100M you could provide housing for all the homeless in DC & NYC for year. Easily.

Obama could have said, "In an effort to be responsible and not appear "inhuman", we're not having a public inaugural this time. We're taking that money and committing it to caring for the homeless".

Now, THAT would have been something. That would have been leadership. THAT would have been historical.

Nope. Gotta have the bash.
