Social laissez-faire in the US is having the same fine results as the economic laissez-faire the country is enjoying right now.

Both would probably have a similar effect to the Harry Potter novels. All three are popular fantasies.

If the alternative is social control and dictatorship based on agendas drawn up by particular interest groups with a compelling need to force their views and rules on all around them, count me out.

A society that marches in unison with no dissent and no diversity is very orderly. It's also a bunch of automatons, not vibrant citizens.

Dictating social standards in a diverse country of 300 million people from 200+ native countries is a fantasy. I see why some people still roll their eyes in pleasure at the thought, but that world vanished long, long ago. It's not coming back except in isolated pockets.
