With that interview on Sixty Minutes, Livni sealed her fate. She was the only one who had a chance against Netanyahu but its not likely she will win after they hear what she said.

Is it really that one sided in Israel? That's not been my understanding?

Livni represents the Kadima party started by Sharon. Netanyahu is in the Likud which is a very small, winger/neo party. The Labour party is made up of lefties and the moderates. For years, the Likud has ruled. Then Sharon, just before his heart attack, split with Likud and formed Kadima. While I believe Labour is still the biggest party, it has become mostly ineffectual. Like most Israelis, they have become afraid, and while they say they do not like the violence of the Israeli attacks on the Palestinians, they condone them as a necessary evil. They have been cowed.....think American liberals after the Bush election and 9/11.

Netanyahu has been running ahead of the polls...with Livni second and E. Barak third.....I think he's Labour. But when the attacks on Gaza started, Netanyahu's lead started to erode because people believed Livni had some backbone. However, I think that will change now given her comment on Sixty Minutes about the West Bank and the settlers who are mostly Hassidim and members of Likud and an even more extremist, rightwing party......personally, I think she's a goner. And God help us and the Palestinians if Netanyahu wins........he is as right as they come.

BTW Z knows this stuff better than I do but I think he has to be careful what he posts.
