Allen, due to confidentiality agreements and the like, Cymer management was mum about what was really going on (remember? everyone on the thread was bitching about that!). They didn't really say much, so the analysts had little to go on execpt for ambiguous statements from the company.

>It seems to me that if an analyst is really doing his or her job the long term business prospects would be more important than just the passing 90 days. But that would be expecting too much!!

You may be a long term investor (which, BTW, there is nothing noble about), but it's not the analyst's "job" to be. Don't you agree that there was "uncertainty" in Cymer back in September? With the uncertainty, an analyst wouldn't want to keep a "strong buy" on a stock (though, I think lowering CYMI to a "buy" ("buy" really meaning "hold" in Wall Street lingo) would have been the thing to do).

Anyway, this discussion isn't all that important. Good luck to CYMI tomorrow (of which I have a large stake in (long), in case anyone thought otherwise).
