Buddy, this looks like the first MAJOR step to get at the crux of the problem. They are going to start buying up mortgage backed securities and then restructuring the mortgages themselves. It'll cost mucho bucks and the taxpayers will get screwed on the deal in the end, but it seems to be the only way to clean up this mess. What they should require before they do this stuff is RESPONSIBILITY from all these bankers that got us into this mess in the first place. Executive pay and bonuses should have to go through a regulatory board or some such so these guys can't just wait this thing out and go back to business as usual.
